    General NewsIn the interest of a long-lived and better organized Carrboro Poetry Festival, Festival founder and director Patrick Herron has decided to cancel the 2006 festival. Patrick hopes the year off will help him to establish the Festival's organizational and financial independence, with the ultimate goal of ensuring a long and healthy life for the Festival. A plan to instutute the Carrboro Poetry Festival under the auspices of a 501c3 is under way. The Festival will be back on track for June 2007.

    Carrburritan and festival participant Todd Sandvik was named the new Carrboro Poet Laureate. Tood is a well-respected local poet and host of the famed monthly Blue Door readings. Todd will serve as poet laureate for two years. He hopes to use his term to create new poetry events in the town including a poet's theater.
